ARPLANK® NXPE

ARPLANK – NON-CROSS-LINKED POLIETHYLENE FOAM
As in the case of classic PE foams, we are talking about closed-cell foams.
They consist of two structures.
The primary structure is the „bead” structure. The beads are approximately 4.5 mm in size and are thermally connected to each other during the forming process in a steam chamber. It is the surface of the beads that determines the outstanding mechanical properties of the foam and ensures the effect of absorbing and dissipating energy.
The second structure is the internal structure of the beads. They are filled with small, closed cells approximately 0.3 mm in size.

GENERAL CHARACTERISTICS OF ARPLANK FOAM

The uniformity of the cell wall thickness and their size determines the isotropicity of this foam (the material properties are the same in all directions). For this reason, the properties of the foam in any area of the entire block are comparable.
It can be said that the mechanical properties of these foams are in some way superior to those of many XPE (cross-linked) foams. Bead foams are able to compete with them due to their lower density.
At any density, the foams return to their original shape very quickly, almost 100%, after impacts or falls, even multiple ones.
No foaming agents are used in the production process of these foams. The material is free from volatile organic compounds (VOC’s), CFC’s, HCFC’s and any compounds that deplete the ozone layer.
Arplank foams do not contain any restricted heavy metals, including lead (Pb), cadmium (Cd), mercury (Hg) and chromium VI (Cr-VI) or their compounds. They also do not contain any halogenated (brominated) compounds.

PROCESSING OF ARPLANK FOAM

An important thing is the easy processing of this material. The regular structure of the material determines the even/aesthetic surface during machining, and the milling and cutting process itself is „clean”.
The large contact surface facilitates easy and effective gluing.

When cutting this type of foam, the concavity effect of the side walls of the cut details is minimized.
The „abrasiveness” of this material is much lower than in the case of XPE foams. This is of great importance when packing scratch-sensitive items.
Their potential should also be mentioned in the context of the discussion on the new EU tax on non-recycled plastic packaging – the so-called PLASTIC TAX. Materials produced using this technology, due to their non-cross-linked structure, can be easily and fully recycled. But it is also important that 25-50% of recycled raw material is added to their production.
